More delays, but some good news, too

Well, the bad news is I no longer can predict a solid date for when I will be putting anything out. There's three reasons for this: the first is my cold came back so I kinda didn't really do anything Simsy last week. (I feel better now.) The second is a really good reason that involves joy and happiness and great celebration, or at least it does from me.

My future father-in-law has decided our Christmas gifts will be two new computers.

Now, usually when I say 'new computer' what I mean is "something better than what I have on my desk right now". This time, what I mean is 'new computer'. As in, hi, socket AM2+ motherboard with quad-core and video card released last month, oh and by the way, widescreen monitors.

Of course he's only buying us 2G of RAM each, but we'll live. (Yes, that's a joke. 2G of RAM is 1G more than I have now. Granted the mobos will take far more, but we'll get there.)

Now, the downside to this is that we'll have to set our computers up from scratch (in fact we'll be doing some assembly of the boxes themselves) and of course that's going to take a while, and while I could transfer stuff over from this box (and will be with the CC and the rest of my basic data, obviously) I would feel a lot safer not starting anything new until the setup was done and I had a chance to test how the game runs on a multicore system and how the new video card works. Some older games have issues on multicore systems and ATI's track record with new cards hasn't been stellar lately (though neither has nVidia's, as some of you probably know). (We had to dither about ATI vs nVidia today and decided ultimately that since we prefer AMD chips we'd stick with ATI, despite their poor openGL support, and hi, I'm a big geek, ignore me.)

The third bit of delay is that my fiancé's employer was encouraging people with enough PTO to cover it to take extra holiday time since they'll be slow, and he's taking a week off, so I probably wouldn't get any Simming done that week anyhow.

So... just figure at some point I'll be like "Oh hai here's something for you to read" and then I'll try to get on some sort of regular release schedule once I start really playing. :)
